Introduction
A) Deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) is a nucleic acid that contains information about the body. It can be said to be a blueprint of the body, instructing the body what to do, and how to do it. DNA is made of nucleotides with a backbone containing sugar and phosphate. In the lab, i will be extracting DNA from my cheek cells and put into a little glass container that i can put on a neckace. B) Purpose of this lab is to precipitate DNA, and study DNA. Studying my DNA can be very useful, since we can test for diseases, or traits of me so i can try to prevent it. Though comparing the DNA after studying, i can also get the actual percentage of risk that i have for a certain syndrome or disease. i would like to know if i have a tendency for an addiction behavior, or carrying a recessive genes for any syndromes, because i would like to see what is coming in the future.
C) First of all, we have to loosen the cheek cells. To do this, i have to chew the sides of my cheek, BUT not drawing blood. Then we add the saline solution which is .9% salt water. Also, we add the lysis buffer, to brek open the cells. Adding protease, we break down other unnecessary protein. we make the DNA solution to go though a hot water bath to speed up the reation.
